Model of Sun's magnetic field created

May 22, 2013 ? Researchers at the Universities of Leeds and Chicago have uncovered an important mechanism behind the generation of astrophysical magnetic fields such as that of the Sun.

Scientists have known since the 18th Century that the Sun regularly oscillates between periods of high and low solar activity in an 11-year cycle, but have been unable to fully explain how this cycle is generated.

In the 'Information Age', it has become increasingly important to be able to understand the Sun's magnetic activity, as it is the changes in its magnetic field that are responsible for 'space weather' phenomena, including solar flares and coronal mass ejections. When this weather heads in the direction of Earth it can damage satellites, endanger astronauts on the International Space Station and cause power grid outages on the ground.

The research, published in the journal Nature, explains how the cyclical nature of these large-scale magnetic fields emerges, providing a solution to the mathematical equations governing fluids and electromagnetism for a large astrophysical body.

The mechanism, known as a dynamo, builds on a solution to a reduced set of equations first proposed in the 1950s which could explain the regular oscillation but which appeared to break down when applied to objects with high electrical conductivity. The mechanism takes into account the 'shear' effect of mass movement of the ionised gas, known as plasma, which makes up the Sun. More importantly it does so in the extreme parameter regime that is relevant to astrophysical bodies.

"Previously, dynamos for large, highly conducting bodies such as the Sun would be overwhelmed by small-scale fluctuations in the magnetic field. Here, we have demonstrated a new mechanism involving a shear flow, which served to damp these small-scale variations, revealing the dominant large-scale pattern," said Professor Steve Tobias, from the University of Leeds' School of Mathematics, a co-author of the research.

What is more, this mechanism could be used to describe other large, spinning astronomical bodies with large-scale magnetic fields such as galaxies.

The dynamo was developed through simulations using the high-performance computing facilities located at the University of Leeds.

"The fact that it took 50 years and huge supercomputers shows how complicated the dynamo process really is." said Prof Fausto Cattaneo, from the University of Chicago's Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

The presence of spots on the Sun has been known since antiquity, and further analysed after the invention of the telescope by Galileo in the 16th Century. However, their cyclic nature, with periods of high activity (lots of sunspots) and low activity (few sunspots) following each other, was not identified until the 18th Century. At the start of the 20th Century it was then recognised that these sunspots were the result of the Sun's magnetic field. Since then much effort has been devoted to understanding what processes lead to the formation of sunspots and the origin of their cyclic behaviour.

Reducing caloric intake delays nerve cell loss

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Activating an enzyme known to play a role in the anti-aging benefits of calorie restriction delays the loss of brain cells and preserves cognitive function in mice, according to a study published in the May 22 issue of The Journal of Neuroscience. The findings could one day guide researchers to discover drug alternatives that slow the progress of age-associated impairments in the brain.

Previous studies have shown that reducing calorie consumption extends the lifespan of a variety of species and decreases the brain changes that often accompany aging and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer?s. There is also evidence that caloric restriction activates an enzyme called Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), which studies suggest offers some protection against age-associated impairments in the brain.

In the current study, Li-Huei Tsai, PhD, Johannes Gr?ff, PhD, and others at the Picower Institute For Learning and Memory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute, tested whether reducing caloric intake would delay the onset of nerve cell loss that is common in neurodegenerative disease, and if so, whether SIRT1 activation was driving this effect. The group not only confirmed that caloric restriction delays nerve cell loss, but also found that a drug that activates SIRT1 produces the same effects.

?There has been great interest in finding compounds that mimic the benefits of caloric restriction that could be used to delay the onset of age-associated problems and/or diseases,? said Luigi Puglielli, MD, PhD, who studies aging at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and was not involved in this study. ?If proven safe for humans, this study suggests such a drug could be used as a preventive tool to delay the onset of neurodegeneration associated with several diseases that affect the aging brain,? Puglielli added.

In the study, Tsai?s team first decreased by 30 percent the normal diets of mice genetically engineered to rapidly undergo changes in the brain associated with neurodegeneration. Following three months on the diet, the mice completed several learning and memory tests. ?We not only observed a delay in the onset of neurodegeneration in the calorie-restricted mice, but the animals were spared the learning and memory deficits of mice that did not consume reduced-calorie diets,? Tsai explained.

Curious if they could recreate the benefits of caloric restriction without changing the animals? diets, the scientists gave a separate group of mice a drug that activates SIRT1. Similar to what the researchers found in the mice exposed to reduced-calorie diets, the mice that received the drug had less cell loss and better cellular connectivity than the mice that did not receive the drug. Additionally, the mice that received the drug treatment performed as well as normal mice in learning and memory tests.

?The question now is whether this type of treatment will work in other animal models, whether it?s safe for use over time, and whether it only temporarily slows down the progression of neurodegeneration or stops it altogether,? Tsai said.

Twitter adds security measure to logins

NEW YORK (AP) ? Twitter is adding an extra security measure to users' accounts in an effort to prevent unauthorized logins.

Twitter said in a blog post Wednesday that users will be able to enroll in a login verification program. For those who sign up, Twitter will send a six-digit code using a text message each time they sign in to Twitter.com. Besides their username and password, users will have to enter the code as well to log in.

Microsoft Corp., Google Inc. and Facebook Inc. already allow two-step verification as an option. Twitter has been criticized for not having this option, especially following recent breaches of Twitter accounts belonging to major news organizations and other companies.

Unlike the other Internet companies, though, Twitter will ask users for a verification code each time they log out and log back in, even if it's from the same computer. The others allow you to bypass that if you are using the same computer regularly. Microsoft began offering two-step verification last month. Facebook and Google have offered them longer.

Twitter users can sign up for two-step verification under their account settings. To do this, Twitter will ask for either a confirmed email address associated with the account or a phone number that's been verified. Even as the two-step verification process adds an extra security layer to Twitter logins, Twitter said users should still take common precautions. That includes selecting complex passwords that are unique to their Twitter account, and not clicking on suspicious email links.

Geologists discover new gold-copper mine in China

Geologists have discovered a large gold-copper mine in northwest China, the state-owned news agency Xinhua reported Tuesday.

The mine is in the Ili Valley in the Xinjiang region near the Kazakh border.

The region's geology and mineral resources bureau said it holds at least 53 tonnes of gold worth about $3.2 billion. It also holds about 31,200 tonnes of copper worth $230 million.

By the end of 2015, the mine is expected to start production and is projected to put out 3 tonnes of gold annually.

Although it is the second mine?discovered?in the valley, it is the largest one found in the region's Tianshan Mountains.

The area falls within the Narat-Hongliu River metallogenic belt suggesting more precious metals will be discovered.

Hey there everyone, I have this task for Java where I must create a GUI for calculating the area/volume of a circle. Our instructor gave us the hints//reminders and we are supposed to fill in the actual code. Here Is the code for GUI that I have so far:

 import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*;   public class CircleTestGUI extends JFrame implements ActionListener {  // declare GUI components JLabel lblRadiusInput; JTextField txtRadiusInput; JLabel lblEchoInput; JTextField txtEchoInput; JLabel lblAreaOutput; JTextField txtAreaOutput; JLabel lblCircumferenceOutput; JTextField txtCircumferenceOutput; JLabel lblClickToCompute; JButton compute; JPanel panInterface; JPanel panGUI; // declare two global instance variables related to inputs boolean validInput; double radiusInput = 0.0;  public void init( ) {  JPanel panInterface = new JPanel( ); panInterface.setLayout( new GridLayout(1, 1) );  panInterface = createGUI( );  setContentPane(panInterface);  }  public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent userClick) {  // call method to obtain and validate input // perform computations only if method returns true if (validateInput( )) {  if (userClick.getSource( ) == compute) {  // instantiate an object of type Circle // with the valid radius inputted by the user Circle One = new Circle (radiusInput); // echo back the input to the user txtEchoInput.setText(Double.toString(One.getRadius( ))); // call the method to compute the area // convert the numeric answer to a string with four places after the decimal point // set the text in the appropriate JTextField txtAreaOutput.setText(One.toPrecisionFourString(One.computeArea(One))); // call the method to compute the circumference // convert the numeric answer to a string with four places after the decimal point // set the text in the appropriate JTextField txtCircumferenceOutput.setText(One.toPrecisionFourString(One.computeVolume(One))); // a finalizer to free up memory allocation on Circle One One = null;  }  }  }  public JPanel createGUI( ) {  JPanel panGUI = new JPanel( ); panGUI.setLayout( new GridLayout(5, 2, 5, 5) );  // developing input row lblRadiusInput = new JLabel("Please input the radius: ", SwingConstants.RIGHT); panGUI.add(lblRadiusInput);  txtRadiusInput = new JTextField(6); panGUI.add(txtRadiusInput);  // developing command button row for program execution lblClickToCompute = new JLabel("Click button to solve: ", SwingConstants.RIGHT); panGUI.add(lblClickToCompute);  compute = new JButton("Compute"); compute.addActionListener(this); panGUI.add(compute);  // developing output row for echo of the input lblEchoInput = new JLabel("Echoing your input: ", SwingConstants.RIGHT); panGUI.add(lblEchoInput);  txtEchoInput = new JTextField(5); txtEchoInput.setEditable(false); panGUI.add(txtEchoInput);  // developing output row for area lblAreaOutput = new JLabel("The area of the circle: ", SwingConstants.RIGHT); panGUI.add(lblAreaOutput);  txtAreaOutput = new JTextField(15); txtAreaOutput.setEditable(false); panGUI.add(txtAreaOutput);  // developing output row for circumference lblCircumferenceOutput = new JLabel("The circumference of the circle: ", SwingConstants.RIGHT); panGUI.add(lblCircumferenceOutput);  txtCircumferenceOutput = new JTextField(15); txtCircumferenceOutput.setEditable(false); panGUI.add(txtCircumferenceOutput);  return panGUI;  }  public boolean validateInput( ) {  validInput = true;  try {  radiusInput = Double.parseDouble(txtRadiusInput.getText( ));  }  catch (NumberFormatException nfeDouble) {  // give error message when input can't be parsed to double JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "You need to enter a number", "Input Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); // set boolean variable to false when // received an invalid input validInput = false; // blanking out inputs and any previous outputs // when input is invalid txtRadiusInput.setText(""); txtEchoInput.setText(""); txtAreaOutput.setText(""); txtCircumferenceOutput.setText("");  }  return validInput;  }  }

When I compile and run the code, I get the following errors:

----jGRASP exec: javac -g CircleTestGUI.java CircleTestGUI.java:53: error: cannot find symbol Circle One = new Circle (radiusInput); ^ symbol: class Circle location: class CircleTestGUI CircleTestGUI.java:53: error: cannot find symbol Circle One = new Circle (radiusInput); ^ symbol: class Circle location: class CircleTestGUI 2 errors ----jGRASP wedge2: exit code for process is 1. ----jGRASP: operation complete.

My mind is drawing a blank and I haven't been able to fix the error. Any input on how I could fix it?

    Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

first you dont have a class Circle i think you mean CircleTestGUI on line 51 also you are calling for a radius but you dont have a constructor that needs radius

Hi everyone, I've just written this code for an assignment but I missed out a bit where the string to be entered needs to be of a defined size so you can only enter a certain amount of letters and numbers. I tried setting different constants for variables which the string uses like SIZE and letters but it didn't work does anyone have any suggestions?

    Here is my code:

#include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> #include <ctype.h>  void ReadLetters(char letters[], int SIZE) { 	printf("Please enter a string of 64 letters and numbers to be counted: "); 	fgets(letters,SIZE,stdin); 	letters[strlen(letters) - 1] = '\0'; }  void Count(char letters[], int counter[]) {	 	int i; 	 	for(i = 0; i<=strlen(letters); i++) 	{ 		if(isalpha(letters[i])) 		{ 			letters[i] = tolower(letters[i]); 			counter[letters[i] - 'a']++; 		} 		else 		{ 			counter[26]++; 		}	 	} 	 	counter[26] = counter[26] - 1; }  void PrintAll(int counter[]) { 	int i; 	 	for(i = 0; i <26;i++) 	{ 		counter[i]; 		if(counter[i]>0) 		{ 			printf("\n%c's - %d", (char) (i + 97), counter[i]); 		} 	} 	 	printf("\nThe amount of non letters is: %d", counter[26]); }  int main() { 	const int SIZE = 64; 	char letters[64] = {0}; 	int counter[27] = {0}; 	 	ReadLetters(letters,SIZE); 	Count(letters,counter); 	PrintAll(counter); 	 	return(0); }

What tornado-hit cities like Moore have learned

The tornado that hit the Oklahoma city of Moore ? its fourth in 15 years ? brought destruction but also brought out well-learned examples of resiliency, hope, and calm.

    By the Monitor's Editorial Board / May 21, 2013

Since 1998, the Oklahoma city of Moore has experienced four tornadoes. Monday?s storm, which packed winds of as much as 200 miles per hour, perhaps brought the worst devastation, leaving more than 50 dead, including schoolchildren, and a need for healing from its grief and loss.

    ' + google_ads[0].line2 + '
    ' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

    '; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; // google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // -->

But the giant twister also brought out the best in a community that has learned, perhaps more than others, that it needs far more than warning systems and storm shelters.

New technology and hardened structures certainly help those caught in a tornado?s path. But as disaster experts now know, people in natural disasters need an inner hardiness that keeps them emotionally calm and mentally alert. One unfazed Moore resident, Renee Lee, told reporters, ?You just do what you gotta do. It?s part of living here.?

Teachers at Moore?s two elementary schools certainly had to keep themselves calm as they corralled kids into safe areas. The city?s mayor, Glenn Lewis, huddled with others in the vault of his jewelry shop. After having experienced a tornado that struck Moore in 199 when he was also mayor, Mr. Lewis was well prepared to take action in the wake of this latest one. ?We?ve already started printing the street signs,? he said soon after the storm destroyed many street markers.

Signals of hope and resilience quickly emerged in the 20-mile swath of wreckage as Moore residents responded to those in need or helped those mourn for lost loved ones. Others who know Moore well tried to help. ?Rise again Moore Oklahoma. Godspeed,? tweeted country singer Toby Keith, a native of Moore. Rep. Tom Cole (R), whose congressional district includes Moore, cited prayer as the top item on his list of what the city needs.

Among disaster experts, the concept of resilience is now a popular focus. The Obama administration issued a policy directive in February that pushes agencies dealing with the effects of extreme weather to emphasize resilience. President Obama?s budget includes $200 million for such efforts.

One expert on resilience, Andrew Zolli of PopTech in Camden, Maine, told the Monitor last year: ?If you believe that the world is a meaningful place, and you have a meaningful place within it; if you believe that you have agency within the world, that your actions have meaning ... that successes and failures are put in your life to teach you things, and that they?re not just random acts of chance, then you have a much higher degree of resilience in the face of trauma.?

Such experts say communities with individuals who are spiritually grounded form bonds that help them through a crisis. Robert Sampson, a Harvard sociologist who has studied poor neighborhoods in Chicago, writes about well-connected communities, which create feelings of belonging that provide a protection against the ?steady drip? of challenges.

After its 1999 tornado, Moore was able to clean up in 61 days and then start rebuilding the city. Perhaps the cleanup this time will be shorter, not only because of the residents? learning curve but also because Moore is better connected ? even to other storm-hit places. The Missouri city of Joplin, which was hit by a 2011 tornado, immediately sent assistance to Moore.

Places hit by tornadoes find their people often have one thing in common. Their calm before a storm helps bring a calm after a storm.

Another Pack of Storms Are Heading Through the Midwest

Mother nature isn't going to give the Midwest a chance to breathe today: after a pack of tornadoes tore through the region on Sunday, the National Weather Service warned of more severe weather on the way this week, with Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas expected to take the next round of brutal thunderstorms and possible tornadoes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service writes:

After over 300 reports of severe weather on Sunday, another round of dangerous severe weather is expected Monday with the greatest threat once again in the southern Plains targeting Oklahoma and parts of Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. However, severe weather is possible much further north towards Chicago and Madison as well.

Oklahoma to Arkansas to Chicago is a large swath of the country as this map shows:?

RELATED: Nor'easter Athena Left Us with a Lot of Snow

RELATED: Winter Storm Naming Leaves Local Weathermen Out in the Cold

What's worrisome is that this is the second round of brutal storms for the states who saw the most damage on Sunday. "Damaging winds greater than 60 mph, large hail and tornadoes are possible with the strongest thunderstorms that develop," reads the report from Accuweather.?Oklahoma saw multiple twisters touch down with an estimated 300 homes damaged or destroyed CNN reported on air this morning. Tractors trailer flipped, and so much damage was dealt that "Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency in 16 counties," NBC News reported.?And here's what Oklahoma has to deal with today:?

And the small town of Rozel, Kansas, saw these two monster tornadoes touch down:?

Part of the reason the storms seem to be focusing on the Plains region is due to a dip in the jet stream. This combined with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, the Weather Channel reports, is pulling the turbulent weather into the Midwest states:?

According to CBS News and the AP, a 79-year-old man was killed and 21 were injured during the slew of storms and officials are trying to go from home to home to this morning to assess the damage. Officials told the AP, that "many times in such situations, people who are not found immediately are discovered later to have left the area ahead of the storm." The severe weather is expected to continue into this week.?

Aid group: Syrian refugees face dire health risks

BEIRUT (AP) ? An international aid organization is appealing for more funds to help Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, saying warmer weather will increase health risks due to lack of shelter, water and basic sanitation.

Oxfam says it needs $53 million dollars to improve access to water and proper sanitation for Syrian refugees. So far the aid group has received $10.6 million dollars.

The Britain-based group said in a statement Monday that diarrhea and skin infections have already been noted among refugees in Jordan and Lebanon. The two countries host the bulk of 1.5 million Syrians who have fled the civil war at home, seeking shelter in neighboring countries.

Oxfam says it needs the funds quickly as temperatures are expected to soar in the region in the coming weeks.

Are Beyonce and Jay-Z expecting another baby?

Beyonce at The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute benefit.

It's the hottest not-yet-confirmed story in entertainment at the moment: Are Beyonce and Jay-Z about to announce that baby No. 2 is on the way?

E! Online and other outlets seem positive this is the case, though thus far "sources" are the only place information has come from -- no one's spokesperson has stepped forward to put the official stamp on it.

But perhaps Beyonce herself reportedly did, on a since-deleted post on her Instagram account (see link for screen shot of post). According to several outlets, shortly after the initial rumors began surfacing, the singer apparently posted: "I can?t stop the rumors from starting, and I can?t really change peoples minds who believe them, all I can do is sit back and laugh at these low life people who have nothing better to do than talk about me.?

So since Beyonce won't say "yes" or "no," what's fueling this burning question?

    • In April, Beyonce told Shape magazine that they would definitely have more children in the future, saying ?I?ll probably start after this tour.? Her first, Blue Ivy, is 16 months old. She hit the road with her "Mrs. Carter Show World Tour" that month, and will be on the road until September -- but maybe she just couldn't wait.
    • Her appearance at the Met Gala in early May featured her in a "stomach-concealing Givenchy gown," as E! Online described it, and as the site suggested, concealment could only mean one thing.
    • On May 13, the New York Post went into full rumor mode, saying that "music insiders are chattering" about her newly-pregnant status, and noted that photos from her tour seem to reveal a baby bump.
    • On May 14, the singer postponed a concert in Belgium, saying in a statement she was "advised by her doctors to rest as a result of dehydration and exhaustion." She posted a note to her Tumblr page later in apology, noting "I've never postponed a show in my life."
    • Other celebrities like Russell Simmons are already taking the rumors as fact, and tweeting congrats.
    • People are just excited to read about Bey's comings and goings, as indicated by her recent controversial trip to Cuba with Jay-Z and the fact that the announcement of her first pregnancy -- on the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards -- set a Guinness World Record for most tweets per second related to a single event.

Meanwhile, Beyonce is unlikely to ease off of work any time soon, regardless of whatever announcement she may make. Other E! sources are saying the tour won't be affected by the rumored pregnancy.

Beyonce will be heard soon, though -- she's the voice of Queen Tara in the animated film "Epic," which opens in theaters on May 24.

Conn. commuter trains collide; 60 go to hospitals

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) ? Two commuter trains serving New York City collided in Connecticut during Friday's evening rush hour, sending 60 people to the hospital, including five with critical injuries, Gov. Dannel Malloy said.

About 250 people were on board the Metro-North trains when one heading east from New York City's Grand Central Station to New Haven derailed about 6:10 p.m. just outside Bridgeport, MTA and Bridgeport officials said.

The train was hit by a train heading west from New Haven to Grand Central on an adjacent track, MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan said. Some cars on the second train also derailed as a result of the collision.

Lola Oliver, 49, of Bridgeport, was on one of the trains when she suddenly found herself in mid-air.

"Finally I came to a stop on one of the seats. And I just gripped it because I felt the train sliding. It happened so fast I had no idea what was going on. All I know is we crashed," she told The Associated Press in a hospital interview.

Investigators Friday night did not know what caused the first train to derail. Malloy said there was no reason to believe it was anything other than an accident.

"We're most concerned about the injured and ultimately reopening the system," Malloy said from the scene about three hours after the crash.

The governor said that most people were not seriously hurt. Among those critically injured, he said, one's injuries were "very critical."

The Metro-North Railroad, a commuter line serving the northern suburbs, described it as a "major derailment." Photos showed a train car askew on the rails, with its end smashed up and brushing against another train. Amtrak suspended service indefinitely between New York and Boston.

Malloy said there was extensive damage to the train cars and the track, and it could take until Monday for normal service to be restored. He said the accident will have a "big impact on the Northeast Corridor."

The area where the accident happened was already down to two tracks because of repair work, Malloy said. Crews have been working for a long time on the electric lines above the tracks, the power source for the trains. He said Connecticut has an old system and no other alternate tracks.

By late evening, Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett said everybody who needed treatment had been attended to, and authorities were beginning to turn their attention to investigating the cause.

"Everybody seemed pretty calm," he said. "Everybody was thankful they didn't get seriously hurt. They were anxious to get home to their families."

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates the Metro-North Railroad, the second-largest commuter railroad in the nation. The Metro-North main lines ? the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven ? run northward from New York City's Grand Central Terminal into suburban New York and Connecticut.

Baby Boomers Raise The Bar for Family Values | Guest Post by ...

    Guerrilla_Marketing_to_BB_cover

Please welcome to my blog Kristi Carter, co-author of the wonderful book?Guerrilla Marketing to Baby Boomers. She has some wonderful tips, so be sure to check out her book AND enter to win a copy! To be entered, simply leave a comment on this post with your name and email address. I?ll announce the winner next Friday!

In my book I show how large and small businesses can optimize their marketing effort to the targeted audience of baby boomers. I teamed up with Jay Conrad Levinson, the father and originator of Guerrilla Marketing, on this book. It was a joy and an honor to work with him. Many businesses are realizing that baby boomers are buying for three generations; their children, themselves and their aging parents. The baby boomers are the biggest sector of consumers with disposable income, and they demand high standards in the products they purchase. Baby boomers have a consciousness that past generations were not as concerned about. Boomers have actually helped our society raise the bar for more sustainable items and environmentally sound products. They care about the world around them and what they will be leaving as a legacy to their children. In Guerrilla Marketing to Baby Boomers, I discuss the boomers? perception of the world. It is crucial for marketers to use the right language and method to activate interest in their prospects? mind. It is important to know that boomers are changing the world for a better and simpler place.

In my book I show several marketing methods that help simplify our marketing plans ranging from using social media to delegating certain tasks to professional services such as Odesk. Working efficiently is the key here. For the entrepreneur, my book shows how to set up and use autoresponders, viral marketing, and landing pages to drive traffic to their product or services. More and more people are preferring the ?work at home online? model of business so they can spend more time at home with their families. This book speaks to them and points the way. Family values and time freedom are the buzzwords that so many entrepreneurs use to propel themselves onto great success both personally and professionally as they work at home online.

In this book you will learn:

    * The basic principles of marketing online
    * How to get an audience of people begging to buy your product
    * Why and what baby boomers are buying
    * How to automate your business so you can spend more time with the family
    * The importance and influence of social media
    * Secrets that baby boomers don?t want you to know
    * Developing and sustaining your marketing plan

There are resources throughout each paragraph of the book to educate and help marketers reach their goals. In chapter seven, ?Secrets for Selecting the Best Marketing Methods,? there are links to demographic studies, e-media, and info-media. If you have the Kindle version, you can simply click and go to that link immediately. AT&T's U-verse gets new On Demand hub, promises simpler discovery for movies and TV shows

Considering it's not one of the company's key operations, it's safe to say AT&T's been successful in its efforts to build out U-verse. Now, in an effort to make life on the couch a little less complicated for subscribers, the Rethink Possible network is introducing an all-new On Demand storefront. With a focus on making content easier to discover, AT&T says the UI will make for an intuitive way to navigate the menus. Additionally, you'll find some novel search tools that should make it easier to find movies and TV shows. U-verse customers will now also see a "My" section, allowing them to quickly access rentals, queued up flicks and promos that AT&T may be offering. The newfangled U-Verse On Demand will be available in more than 45 markets starting today, with more being expected to join "on an ongoing basis throughout the year."

High School Students From Nevada To Perform With The Rolling Stones (VIDEO)

One group of teen musicians from Nevada is about to get the opportunity of a lifetime: performing on stage with real-life rock stars.

According to Channel 8 News, the 24-person choir at Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nev. is going to perform at the Rolling Stones' concert in Las Vegas on Saturday. They'll join the band on stage and sing along to the hit song,"You Can't Always Get What You Want," for the encore performance.

Kim Ritzer, the school's choir director, was originally contacted about the opportunity through Facebook, then the students auditioned for a Rolling Stones representative over Skype.

Watch the students' reactions to the news in the video above.

Not only are the high schoolers looking forward to the upcoming show, but their parents are just as thrilled -- if not more so.

"I called my dad. He was screaming at me over the phone and said, ?Are you kidding me?'" student Kyle Sorenson told Channel 8 News. "And my mom told me -- she said, ?You better get an extra ticket or else I'll come with a chaperone.' They're beyond excited, and so am I."

Michael Pollack is another student musician who took advantage of a unique opportunity to get on stage with a celeb who visited his college. When iconic singer-songwriter Billy Joel visited Vanderbilt in March, the two performed "New York State of Mind" in front of a packed audience. Pollack rocked out on the piano and Joel sang the accompanying lyrics.

And more recently, 19-year-old Marie Sowler told the Internet just how much she wanted to meet her idol Kellin Quinn, lead singer from the band Sleeping With Sirens, and the power of social media made it happen. Quinn chatted with the teen cancer patient over Skype before he left to go on tour.

He then took to Twitter and said, "Hey guys thank you so much for your support in rallying for Marie :) she's my hero! So grateful to have such caring fans!"

Tell us: If you could meet ONE celeb, who would it be and why? Sound off in the comments below or tweet @HuffPostTeen!
