How South Africa newspapers reacted to Oscar Pistorius' murder charge

Oscar Pistorius was perhaps the most famous athlete in South Africa thanks to his Olympic heroics. How did South Africa's press reconcile that with his arrest for murder on Thursday?

South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius was arrested on a charge that he murdered his girlfriend on Thursday. With a subject so beloved in his nation, how did the press cover? How do you even approach the story? I can't imagine, but here's how three newspapers in South Africa handled their Friday front pages, all via Newseum.

THE MERCURY, Durban

That headline combo is crushing: "Oscar's Girlfriend Expected Day of Love."

THE CAPE TIMES, Cape Town

The Cape Times includes a couple of photos of Oscar above the fold, and cuts right to the chase in the headline. This paper also dedicates more front page real estate to other topics and also nice watches and expensive liquor.

THE WITNESS, Pietermaritzburg

The use of police tape style design over the photo of Pistorius being ushered off to court with the boldface questions everyone is asking ... definitely gets to the point.
