Lindsey Vonn is pleased with her progress from a season-ending knee surgery, saying she's ahead of schedule.
What the four-time overall World Cup champion is unhappy about is how she got hurt in the first place. She believes that organizers at the world championships in Schladming, Austria, should have called off the super-G race Feb. 5 because of deteriorating conditions on the course. Vonn shredded two ligaments in her crash.
In a conference call Friday, Vonn said she "did not think it was safe" to race the super-G on the soft snow and that "athletes safety should come first."
Vonn is on pace to return well before the 2014 Sochi Games and defend her Olympic downhill title. She says this injury makes her "the underdog now."
